Americorps

Hosted by Lyndon State College and funded by the Vermont Commission on National and Community Service and local partners, this grass roots collaborative started in 1994 and is considered a model rural program.

By fostering community service in collaboration with 17 regional partners, Americorps strives to improve the quality of life for its citizens in Orleans, Essex and Caledonia counties through literacy programs, positive youth development and out of school programming. The partners in the initiative include schools, libraries, UVM Cooperative Extension and local community agencies. Their goal is to positively impact these needs by providing tutoring for young children and adults, developing and implementing out-of-school programs that will give children and youth an opportunity to master new skills, express their individuality, experience cultural opportunities and receive emotional and academic support from caring adults.
