Wednesday, April 22, 2009—Sustainable Agriculture

• Visit the Farmers Market from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM in the ATC Lobby and then swing by the Student Center and check out the Local Foods, Local Communities exhibit and sample some earth friendly foods. The exhibit will feature the St. J Food Co-op and other community supported agriculture operations. There will also be a Compost Demo. Come learn how to compost and see what it’s all about.

• ARAMARK will feature locally grown produce at the snack bar and display a food source poster. Come and learn about the Green Stakes program and order a meal prepared by a guest chef. Don’t miss it!

• Earth Day Art Auction and Reception. Held in the Student Center. Bidding takes place between 11:30 AM and 1:30 PM. Theme is Earth Day.

• Earth Week Film Series in the Rita Bole Conference Room at 7:00 PM. Title: Deconstructing Supper. Renowned chef John Bishop leads viewers on an eye-opening and engaging journey into the billion-dollar battle to control global food production. Starting with a gourmet meal in his five-star restaurant, Bishop travels the world -- from farmer's fields to biotech laboratories to supermarket aisles -- on a personal quest to find out what our food choices are. This is a must see movie!

Thursday, April 23, 2009—Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency

• There will be displays around the Library Pond on solar energy and wind power, geothermal heating, biomass energy, and energy efficiency: These displays will include solar electric and solar hot water panels, a solar-hydrogen fuel cell exhibit, along with simple explanations on how these technologies work, how much they cost and are likely to cost in the future, how their energy can be stored, and what the ultimate potential these sources of energy have for our society.

• 4th Annual LSC Gets Trashed! Held between HAC and Wheelock from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Come dig through piles of “trash” to see how much recyclable material LSC throws away. This event is exciting and tangible—you can feel, see, hear, smell, and well, hopefully we won’t taste the trash! See your friends, faculty, and staff get ‘down and dirty’ to promote recycling and sustainable living here on Campus. It’s definitely messy, but don’t worry, we’ll have plenty of rubbers for protection!! (Gloves that is…what were you thinking?)

• Earth Week Film Series in the Student Center at 7:00 PM. Title: Kilowatt Ours. Kilowatt Ours is a documentary by Jeff Barrie that has become a national movement to promote energy conservation, efficiency and renewable energy. Don’t miss this informative, eye opening film!

Friday, April 24, 2009—Musical Performance

• Parker House and Theory will be performing outside of the Harvey Academic Center beginning at 5:30 PM. In case of rain, this event will be moved to the student center. “Explicitly diverse, often misclassified, Parker House and Theory mashes rock, funk, pop and soul, oozing with energy and smacking you in the face with charisma. Eccentric in nature, personality is always center stage. Parker House and Theory's sound lives in the alleyways between the restrictive structures of modern genre classification." Come outside, enjoy the sun, and fall in love with the unique sounds of Parker House and Theory. Get ready to rock, because with a commanding stage presence and limitless energy backed by catchy hooks and a tight dynamic, it's impossible for anyone to stay seated at a Parker House show!
