This coming summer, the Atmospheric Sciences Department at LSC will be hosting a weather camp for students who are entering their 7th, 8th, or 9th grade years. The dates of the camp will be Saturday, August 2nd and Sunday, August 3rd. It will be a day camp format: students will arrive on campus Saturday morning, will leave campus after the activities conclude on Saturday afternoon, and then return to campus on Sunday morning.
The camp will involve a variety of classroom and lab activities, and a weather balloon launch. Topics will include cloud identification and severe weather. There will also be an exercise in TV weathercasting, which will be conducted at the LSC News 7 studio. On Sunday, students will give presentations regarding what they have learned. Parents will be encouraged to attend the presentations. Activities will conclude Sunday afternoon with a BBQ for campers, parents, and camp staff.
