Deborah Hughes, M.S., New Jersey Institute of Technology
Associate Professor, Math & Computer Science
Twenty years in the computer industry have given Professor Debbie Hughes a great deal of experience in software development. So when she came to Vermont and started her teaching career at Lyndon State, she was eager to incorporate her business knowledge into the classroom setting.
“I keep my classes balanced by combining lectures, discussions and hands-on assignments,” she says. “It keeps my brain active devising meaningful projects in which students can successfully apply what they have learned in class.” For example, she asks students to create programs which simulate real life activities, such as modeling an ATM machine or an Internet-based business.
In off hours, Ms. Hughes can most often be found outdoors, on the tennis court, on the road — she loves to travel — or in her flower garden. Life in the Northeast Kingdom and at LSC suits her well.
