LSC to Host 4th Annual NEK Veterans Summit
Followed by 3rd Annual Ian Muller Rail Jam
March 2, 2016
The Lyndon State College Veterans Club in partnership with the LSC Veterans Student Support Committee and other veteran service organizations will be hosting the fourth annual Northeast Kingdom Veterans Summit on the Lyndon campus on Saturday, March 12, 2016. The purpose is to bring veterans, their families, and veteran service organizations together to build relationships, stronger connections, and an enhanced regional support network. The Summit runs from 8 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
This year’s keynote speaker is Jon Turner. Turner served with the U.S. Marines from 2003-2007 on three deployments and was awarded a Purple Heart on his second tour in Iraq. He currently lives in Addison County and manages an educational forest farm that teaches methods of regenerative agriculture to college students, children, veterans, and community members. Jon sits as chair of the Farmer Veteran Coalition of Vermont and is actively working with his board members to assist veterans with their agricultural operations.
There will be a variety of breakout sessions for veterans and their families throughout the day including PTSD and TBI; employment opportunities; benefits; entrepreneurship; and VA loans. There will be sessions specifically intended for women veterans, student veterans, and veteran farmers. Additionally, more than 50 veteran service organizations will have information booths to provide a “one-stop-shop” for veterans’ services, clubs, and resources.
Advance registration for the Summit is required and attendance is limited.
